Come and live in Berlin
Want to make Berlin your new home and live and work here? We’ll be happy to help by providing you with plenty of important information and insider stories.
Moving to Berlin – What you need to know
The city has 12 districts that have grown together over time. Each district is like its own little city within Berlin, varying in character – from urban and hip to refined and sophisticated. Each district is made up of smaller neighbourhoods, or ‘Kieze’. Mitte, Pankow, Neukölln and Tempelhof offer a big city feeling, while Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Spandau and Treptow-Köpenick are the city’s green oases.
Regardless of which district you choose, Berlin boasts an extensive public transport system and road network, making it fast and convenient to get from A to B.
The districts offer various types of accommodation, from classic rented flats to purchasable homes all the way to city mansions. At the same time, rents in Berlin are lower than in other German and European cities, making living in Berlin even more appealing. Further information on finding a flat can be found at www.talent-berlin.de, including a checklist for applying to rent a flat.
Job hunting in Berlin
The company structures, job opportunities, and work cultures in Berlin are as diverse as the city itself, with everything from startups, mid-sized companies to large corporations. Today there are even many English-speaking jobs. Many companies based in Berlin are global players and regularly look for native English speakers. A lot of jobs in Berlin aren’t officially advertised, but rather promoted and filled via word of mouth. This means it is essential to build a solid network of contacts from the very beginning.
