Berlin Takes Off: Gulf Carriers Boost Flights

Berlin is set to become an even more prominent international hub as Qatar Airways and Eurowings significantly expand their Middle Eastern routes. The airlines are responding to growing passenger demand and strategic market opportunities.
Qatar Airways is ramping up its presence in the German capital, announcing a boost to its Berlin-Doha route to three daily flights starting in July 2024. This expansion comes on the heels of a remarkable 16% increase in passenger numbers in Germany compared to the previous year. The airline's Chief Commercial Officer, Thierry Antinori, confirmed plans for future growth, though additional German destinations will likely be delayed due to aircraft delivery challenges.
Meanwhile, Eurowings is making bold moves at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). The Lufthansa subsidiary will introduce a groundbreaking direct connection to Abu Dhabi, starting November 3rd, 2025. The airline is also enhancing its existing Dubai route to daily flights and increasing weekly connections to the Gulf region to an impressive 16 flights.
The expansion isn't limited to the Middle East. Eurowings plans to serve 42 destinations across 22 countries in summer 2025, with new routes including Spanish cities Bilbao and Jerez de la Frontera, Greek island Corfu, Portuguese Faro, and British Newcastle.
