Berlin Wins Big at German Developer Awards 2025

Berlin's gaming scene is on fire. The capital took home five trophies at the German Developer Awards 2025 in Cologne, proving once again that Berlin is a powerhouse for game development talent.
The biggest win of the night went to Toukana Interactive, which was crowned Studio of the Year. The Berlin-based team, known for their hit game Dorfromantik and their latest success Star Birds, beat out strong competition from CipSoft and Swiss studio Stray Fawn. According to Games Wirtschaft, the jury praised Toukana for creating an international hit with their debut title and following it up with an even more successful second game that earned rave reviews from the gaming community.
Paintbucket Games grabbed two awards for The Darkest Files, winning Best Game Design and Best Game Beyond Entertainment. Meanwhile, Happy Broccoli Games took home Best Audio Design for Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping. Food for Thought founder Serenad Yilmaz received the NRW Development Prize, rounding out Berlin's winning streak.
Helge Jürgens, managing director of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, highlighted how these wins reflect the region's commitment to nurturing young talent. He noted that Toukana Interactive has been supported since its founding at HTW Berlin, and praised Paintbucket Games for bringing historical awareness into digital spaces through gaming.
With seven additional nominations for Berlin and Brandenburg developers, including Megagon Industries for Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders, the capital region clearly has momentum. These awards showcase Berlin as a thriving hub where creative gaming studios can flourish and compete on an international level.
