Berlin's Enpal Lands €700M for Solar & Heat Pump Loans

Berlin's Enpal is powering up its growth with a significant financial boost. According to the company's press release, Europe's leading residential solar provider has established a €700 million asset-backed securities (ABS) warehouse facility in partnership with UK investment manager M&G.

The facility, which includes €600 million in senior lending from Citi, Barclays, Bank of America, and Crédit Agricole CIB, will fund Enpal's embedded financing solution for residential solar and heating systems. This structure allows the company to scale without requiring massive equity investments—a capital-efficient approach that could transform how households access clean energy.

So what exactly does Enpal do? Think of it as a one-stop shop for decentralized home energy. The Berlin-based company installs solar panels, battery storage systems, EV chargers, smart meters, and heat pumps. But the real magic happens with Enpal.One+, an AI-powered platform that connects tens of thousands of home batteries into a virtual power plant, trading customers' excess electricity on energy markets.

"This new structure enables us to scale even more capital efficiently, bringing modern energy solutions to thousands of households without high upfront costs," said Viktor Wingert, Enpal's CFO and Co-founder.

Founded in 2017, Enpal has grown rapidly to serve over 100,000 customers with more than 300,000 decentralized energy systems. The company leads Germany's heat pump market and operates as the country's largest independent metering point operator.

The partnership with M&G, which began in 2022, has become central to Enpal's refinancing strategy as it continues transitioning thousands of households monthly to renewable energy while strengthening Europe's energy independence.
