Berlin's Omria Raises Funds for Remote MRI Service

The Omria founders: Andrej Kazakov (COO/CTO) and Maximilian Schaber (CEO)
Berlin-based healthcare startup Omria has successfully closed a funding round with backing from IBB Ventures and several experienced business angels, including experts from the radiology sector, according to a press release from IBB Ventures.
The company is tackling a critical challenge facing radiology facilities across Germany: severe staff shortages and limited availability during off-peak hours. Omria's solution? A cloud-based platform that enables remote operation of MRI scanners, allowing qualified radiological technologists to conduct examinations from anywhere.
Here's how it works: Omria's experienced team of remote specialists takes control of MRI machines from a distance, ensuring uninterrupted, high-quality examinations. The platform seamlessly integrates into existing radiological workflows and systems, optimizing equipment utilization while reducing pressure on medical practices and hospitals. Think of it as remote work for MRI operations – but with the precision and expertise required for medical imaging.
"Our vision is to make radiological care available anytime, anywhere – with the highest quality standards and maximum flexibility," explains Maximilian Schaber, CEO and co-founder of Omria. Co-founder Andrej Kazakov adds that demand for remote solutions is growing rapidly.
The funding will fuel growth in the German market and support future international expansion. Ulrike Kalapis, Senior Investment Manager at IBB Ventures, highlights that Omria addresses a central healthcare supply problem with an exceptionally scalable business model, making it "a true innovation driver for radiology's digital future."
Business angel Prof. Dr. Forsting, Director of the Institute for Radiology at University Hospital Essen, emphasizes the technology's impact: it enables highly qualified radiological technologists to perform examinations location-independently, significantly increasing medical facilities' capacity.
Fellow investor Bastian Werminghoff notes additional benefits: patients have more appointment options, operators can easily respond to staff absences, and MRI utilization remains guaranteed through Book&Bill technology that optimizes integration of Omria's remote experts into daily scheduling.
