Berlin-based climate fintech Bees & Bears has secured €500 million in financing commitments to accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy solutions in German households, according to a company announcement.

The Berlin-based startup, founded in 2023, will use the funding to finance approximately 25,000 installations of solar panels, heat pumps, energy storage systems, and EV charging stations. The company's platform enables homeowners to obtain instant financing through local contractors, similar to car financing processes.

"Until now, homeowners seeking credit for solar installations were almost forced to choose one of the few large online installers, as only they could offer installment payments," explains Marius Schondelmaier, co-founder and CEO of Bees & Bears. The company's solution allows customers to combine installment payments with their preferred local installation company.

The financing commitment comes from a stock exchange-listed bank in the DACH region, supervised by the European Central Bank. The deal was facilitated by law firm Linklaters.

Bees & Bears' platform streamlines the process for both installers and customers. Contractors simply enter the financial details of their quote and customer information into a web interface, followed by a real-time credit check. Government subsidies are pre-financed and reconciled upon approval.

Co-founders Jakob von Egidy and Marius Schondelmaier established the company to address the annual €4 trillion investment gap in sustainability needed to meet global climate goals. The platform particularly benefits small and medium-sized installation companies by enabling them to compete with larger industry players.
