Berlin-based MedTech company DiaMonTech has successfully closed an €8 million follow-on financing round, demonstrating the capital's growing strength as a hub for innovative healthcare technology.

The funding was led by Companisto, the largest business angel network in the DACH region, with participation from international venture capital firms and institutional investors including Samsung Next. According to the company's press release, this marks a significant milestone showing business angels can lead complex growth rounds alongside major VCs.

DiaMonTech is developing breakthrough technology for non-invasive blood glucose monitoring using patented photothermal detection. Their system employs a quantum cascade laser that emits mid-infrared light to specifically excite glucose molecules in the skin, measuring the resulting thermal energy for accurate blood sugar readings without painful finger pricks.

The company's first product, the D-Base tabletop device, has shown promising results in clinical studies with accuracy comparable to FDA-approved continuous glucose monitoring systems. DiaMonTech is now developing the D-Pocket, a handheld version that will make this technology accessible to end-users.

"The Business Angel Network Companisto has exceeded our expectations," said Thorsten Lubinski, CEO of DiaMonTech, in the press release. "Both the €8 million sum from the network and the quality of individual investors impressed me greatly."

The fresh capital will fund market entry in Europe and the USA, as well as regulatory approvals. DiaMonTech's ambitious roadmap includes further miniaturization to millimeter scale, potentially enabling integration into smartwatches or fitness bands.

Founded in Berlin in 2015, DiaMonTech combines expertise from biophysics, medical technology, software development, and entrepreneurship. Their patented technology has received multiple awards, including the Health-i Award from Handelsblatt and Techniker Krankenkasse, plus the Deep Tech Award from Berlin's Senate.
