The German indoor football venture Baller League has secured $25 million in funding to fuel its expansion into the United Kingdom and United States, according to Sports Business. The investment round was led by EQT Ventures, bringing the league's total funding to over $33 million.

Founded in Berlin in 2023 by Felix Starck alongside football stars Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski, Baller League offers a fresh take on traditional soccer. The format features six-a-side matches played in indoor arenas, with 15-minute halves and unique rule modifications that create unexpected twists in the final three minutes of each half.

The league's UK edition, scheduled to run from March 3 to May 19, 2025, will feature 12 teams managed by influencers and former professional players. YouTube star JJ "KSI" Olatunji will serve as president of the UK operation, while content creator Darren "IShowSpeed" Watkins Jr. will lead the US version.

"Football is the world's most popular game, so it's something that's incredibly approachable," said Ashley Lundström, partner at EQT Ventures, highlighting the project's global appeal. The games are streamed free on Twitch and YouTube, targeting younger audiences with a mix of sports and entertainment.

League founder Felix Starck emphasizes the contemporary approach: "Modern sport must be exciting and authentic." The format includes special "game-changers" like three-versus-three situations, double points for long-range goals, and goalkeepers restricted from using their hands.
