Nala Earth Secures €3.8M for Nature Risk Assessment
Berlin-based nature tech startup Nala Earth has secured €3.8 million in seed funding to enhance its AI-driven platform that helps companies assess and manage their impact on nature and biodiversity. According to the company's announcement, the funding round was led by European VC firm IRIS, with participation from KOMPAS VC, Pale blue dot, and Founderful.
Founded in 2023 by Nick Zumbühl, Nicolas Somogyi, and Anna Alex, Nala Earth's platform addresses a critical business need: over 50% of global GDP (approximately $44 trillion) depends on healthy ecosystems, as reported in The New Nature Economy Report from Davos 2020.
The timing is particularly relevant as new regulations like the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) require companies to disclose their environmental impact. By 2028, over 50,000 businesses will need to comply with these requirements. Nala Earth's platform significantly reduces reporting time from months to days.
The company has already gained traction with major industry players, completing projects with Volkswagen and forming partnerships with BASF and Continental. Currently, Nala Earth serves 10 customers, managing over 3,000 hectares under active nature monitoring.
The fresh capital will be used to expand the platform's capabilities and accelerate product development through strategic hires in engineering and design. "Nature is fundamental to most businesses and must be considered in every decision," says CEO Nick Zumbühl, highlighting the platform's role in procurement, operations, and financing decisions.
