Berlin-based NetBird has closed a $10 million Series A funding round led by Pace Capital, with Nauta Capital, InReach Ventures, and Antler joining the investment, according to Tech EU. The company is building an open source alternative to traditional VPN solutions that's gaining traction across multiple industries.

So what exactly does NetBird do? Imagine your company has remote employees scattered across different locations, servers in various data centers, and cloud infrastructure spread across multiple providers. Traditionally, connecting all these pieces securely means dealing with VPNs that require constant security patches, complex firewall configurations, and centralized gateways that can become bottlenecks. NetBird eliminates this headache entirely.

The platform creates secure, direct connections between devices and infrastructure without the usual complexity. No port forwarding, no centralized chokepoints, no elaborate firewall rule management. It's built on Zero Trust principles, meaning every connection is verified regardless of location.

What sets NetBird apart is its approach to growth. While most enterprise security companies rely on aggressive sales teams and lengthy product demonstrations, NetBird lets the technology speak for itself. Engineers and DevOps teams can download the open source platform from GitHub, test it in their home labs, and experience the value firsthand before bringing it to their organizations.

"Our community has become our strongest advocate, shaping the product far more than any traditional enterprise marketing ever could," says co-founder Misha Bragin.

Since launching on GitHub in 2021, NetBird has attracted customers including Sport Alliance, netgo, Signicat, and VIEW Group. The platform serves managed service providers, tech companies, large enterprises, and public sector organizations.

The fresh capital will fuel engineering development, expand use cases, strengthen community support, and accelerate global scaling. European digital sovereignty also plays a key role in NetBird's strategy as demand grows for security infrastructure developed within Europe.
