Berlin-based renewable energy company NeXtWind has significantly expanded its wind power portfolio with the acquisition of twelve wind farms across Germany, according to a company press release. The deal with Nadara, a major European independent power producer, adds facilities in western, northern, and eastern Germany to NeXtWind's growing network.

The newly acquired wind farms currently generate 140 megawatts (MW) of power, with plans to more than double capacity to over 300 MW through repowering initiatives. This expansion brings NeXtWind's total portfolio to 230 wind turbines across 37 wind parks, with a combined repowering capacity of 1,400 MW - enough to power approximately one million German households annually.

"This acquisition is a giant milestone for NeXtWind and another step forward for Germany's energy transition," says Lars Meyer, Co-CEO and co-founder of NeXtWind. The company aims to leverage technological advances to upgrade the wind farms, which were originally built between 2007 and 2011.

The Berlin startup, founded in 2020, has set an ambitious target of reaching 3,000 MW generation potential by 2028. With $750 million in funding backing its expansion, NeXtWind focuses on optimizing existing wind energy sites by replacing outdated turbines with more efficient models and expanding facilities through collaboration with local communities.
