The BerlinBioCube has been opened as planned in 2023 on the grounds of the Biotechpark Berlin-Buch, where the future of medicine is being created. This new incubator for biotech and medtech startups on the Berlin-Buch Campus with its five floors offering a total of 8,000 square meters of lab and office space will improve the region’s economic structure still further. €48,9M was invested in the new building. The BioCube offers modern and light-filled laboratories and offices, communal areas and conference rooms. “There will also be a dedicated ‘Talk in the Cube’ event series with exciting topics and training for the teams,” said Dr. Christina Quensel, managing director of Campus Berlin-Buch. 14 startups are set to move in, including spin-offs from the Max Delbrück Center, the Charité hospital, and the Leibniz institute for molecular pharmacology. They’ll all be developing innovative gene and cell therapies or active substances to effectively combat cancer and other widespread diseases. Overall, the campus is an ideal environment to build networks and initiate joint projects, and the startups will benefit from the experienced biotech and medical technology companies, research facilities, and infrastructure. Next, Campus Berlin-Buch is pushing ahead with the development of an area of five hectares in the immediate vicinity of the campus. “Start-ups become grown-ups, they need production space. Keeping them here means securing jobs for Berlin,” Quensel said.
