Berlin-based satellite manufacturer Reflex Aerospace has closed a €50 million Series A funding round—the largest in European New Space history. The round was led by Human Element and Alpine Space Ventures, with participation from Bayern Kapital, HTGF, and other German and European investors, according to the company's press release.

The funding will accelerate production of sovereign satellite constellations offering optical imaging, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Space Domain Awareness (SDA), and Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) capabilities. A portion will expand manufacturing capacity in Bavaria to build satellites for intelligence and communications missions, with all systems targeted for orbital deployment by 2027.

"Europe cannot afford to remain reliant on external actors for space-based intelligence," said Walter Ballheimer, CEO of Reflex Aerospace. "In the current environment, there is no time to waste."

The timing aligns with major European defense commitments. Germany announced plans to invest roughly €35 billion in space-related defense projects through 2030, while the EU prepares to launch its European Space Shield Initiative in 2026. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has called satellite networks an "Achilles heel of modern societies."

Reflex Aerospace, founded in 2021 with offices in Berlin and Munich, employs over 70 people with experience across 40+ successful space missions. The company launched its first remote sensing satellite in January 2025 and is developing its next-generation Praetora platform specifically for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.

"Reflex is transforming how satellites are built, designing payload-centric buses that can be rapidly manufactured without costly megafactories," said Christian Sullivan, Managing Partner of Human Element. The company uses generative design, additive manufacturing, and streamlined processes to dramatically reduce lead times while maintaining sovereign control over European supply chains and operations.
