Stadler's RS ZERO Sets New Standards for Sustainable Rail Travel

Stadler, the renowned rail vehicle manufacturer, has introduced a groundbreaking innovation in the world of rail transport. According to a press release from the company, the new RS ZERO train, successor to the popular Regio-Shuttle RS1, is set to revolutionize environmentally friendly rail travel.
The RS ZERO stands out with its unique dual-drive option, offering both hydrogen and battery power capabilities. This world-first technology aims to enable CO2 emission-free operation on secondary rail lines, addressing the challenges of non-electrified routes that make up a significant portion of railway networks in Germany and Europe.
Jure Mikolčić, CEO of Stadler Germany, expressed pride in the company's achievement: "With the RS ZERO prototype, we are very proud to build the next vehicle with alternative drive technology at the Berlin site after the battery-electric FLIRT Akku. Thanks to our technological openness, we can always offer our customers the right vehicle and make an important contribution to the transport transition."
The new train retains the characteristic trapezoidal window strips of its predecessor while incorporating modern design elements like an LED wing. Available as single and double units, the RS ZERO can accommodate 70 to 150 passengers, featuring low entry height and a spacious, step-free low-floor area for enhanced accessibility.
Stadler has prioritized sustainability in the RS ZERO's development, using eco-friendly materials for the interior, including flooring made from 98% renewable raw materials and side wall paneling produced from recycled PET bottles.
Rail enthusiasts and industry professionals will have the opportunity to see the RS ZERO prototype firsthand at InnoTrans 2024, taking place from September 24 to 27 in Berlin.
