Gigafactory in Grünheide near Berlin. According to information from electrive, the company expects to begin production in 2027, creating hundreds of new jobs in Brandenburg.

The project has been on ice since 2022, when Tesla prioritized the United States due to substantial subsidies.

Plant manager André Thierig told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that Tesla plans to invest nearly 100 million euros in the production facilities, with total investments in the cell factory reaching almost one billion euros. The goal is ambitious: establishing the complete battery value chain at one location, from cell production to finished electric vehicles. "This is unique in Europe; no other production site offers this," Thierig emphasized.

Tesla is already recruiting for the expansion, advertising positions including a Battery Cell Production Manager. The company currently assembles battery packs in Grünheide using 4680 cells produced at its Texas facility, alongside cells from suppliers CATL and LG Energy Solution.

There's a caveat, though. Tesla stated that the complete battery value chain will only be established "if the conditions are right," leaving the door open for potential changes, particularly with works council elections approaching in March.
